Teochew Fishball Noodle @ Tiong Bahru Market and Food Centre, Singapore.

went to my normal hunting grounds for breakfast, and saw this fishball noodle stall. Always long queue, but i guess it's the holiday season, queue wasn't that long. Decided to give it a try.

there were two sizes, ordered a large mee pok fishball noodle dry. The uncle prepared each orders individually, hence the queue, in order to keep consistency of the flavors.

For 3sgd, portions were generous, love the fishball. The noodles was ok, could have use more seasoning, or might be i'm still trying to recover from my flu. i shall give it another try next time. Hey if the queue is long, this stall must have done something right.

Bismillah Briyani @ Dunlop Street, Singapore

This place has eluded me so far, and when a friend of mine called to have lunch here, i just can't turn him down. Die die must try see what the fuss is about.

They serve either chicken or mutton briyani, decided to try the mutton. Decent amount of mutton packed inside the rice, and yes that's a hard boil egg. I have to say, the briyani is good, but i have one complain here, no dhalca or curry or gravy. They did put up a sign in the shop stating they don't serve any gravy. Guess must be other customers like me who like their briyani to be flooded with gravy, aha. All in all good briyani.

Chee Cheong Fun @ Old Airport Road Food Centre, Singapore

nothing is like comfort food as having chee chong fun for breakfast. There's two type of chee cheong fun, one being the plain , and the second type is HK style with meat, mushroom or seafood rolled inside.
This being the latter.

they sell chee cheong fun and porridge. Haven't tried the porridge yet, as i always stuffing myself with the chee cheong fun.

Isn't that lovely, this round chose fillings with mushroom and  prawns. it look's very basic, some soya sauce, fried onions and sambal. But everything just mixed into one nice flavor and complements the chee cheong fun. Good stuff.

Hajjah Maimunah restaurant @ Jalan Pisang, Singapore.

In singapore, it's a bit hard to find malay rice. You'll get the usual fare nasi padang, but for those who knows, malay rice is a bit different from nasi padang; one is from this region, and the latter padang. Anyway hajjah maimunah is a mix of both, i guess thats why i keep coming back to this restaurant compared to the other nasi padang restaurants.

Sorry for the blurry pics, was halfway eating,  had a few friends over we had a feast.
ordered ayam masak lemak (chicken in yellow gravy coconut spicy sauce), snails masak lemak (same style of cooking, the snails are awesome!), sambal goreng , anchovies with petai (smelly beans, to die for), beansprouts, sup ekor (oxtail soup) and ikan pari asam pedas (stingray sweet sour spicy gravy, another dish i highly recommend).

Close up of the snails, you need to order this, messy but good.

ikan bakar (grilled fish) with the soya dippin sauce, it complements very well. and some old school vege/ulam with sambal belacan. Only thing i missed, which you can't find here in singapore (correct me if im wrong) sambal tempoyak which is the fermented durian paste. Top it off, some teh botol for drinks, yummy.

This place is definitely one of my tops. Even it was featured in Anthony Bourdain.

Gyoza King @ Orchid hotel, Singapore

something new to try by the ramen keisuke guys. gyoza set with rice. they have the usual beansprouts for starters, unlimited.... i'm such a sucker for beansprouts.

deal here, a set costs sgd 13.90, you'll get a bowl of miso soup (kinda big), a bowl of rice (you can choose the size, but if i'm not mistaken the large bowl, you gotta fork out extra, but its good quality jap rice), 2 sides and 5 pieces gyoza. it might sounds expensive, but i'll tell you its a bargain. there's about roughly 6 side dishes to choose from, some tofu, some vege, and me being a carnivore , i chose 1 sesame chicken, and i think chicken with mayo potato thingy.

For the gyoza i opted the chicken as well. rice was good, the side dish, chicken with mayo potato was good, and i think i'll go for some vege next time. The gyoza however was a bit of  a let down, but with this type of pricing, i'll give it again another go, before i make up my mind. Hopefully next round it'll pack a bit more punch.

Tonkatsu Ginza Bairin @ Ion Orchard

been eyeing this place for quite some time, and today i managed to try it for lunch.

Impressive array of menus they have here. Decided to go with the chicken katsu don set.
Comes with some pickled starter and miso.

Looks messy, but boy it tasted great. The egg was done nicely with a bit of gooey.  Nice carbo overload.

Mala Hotpot @ 45 Mosque Street, Singapore

Not sure what the restaurant is called because its in Chinese writing, but took a picture what the restaurant looks like from outside.

It costs about 20 plus sgd  per person, and its ala carte buffet. and it's one of the better ones so far i tried.

opted for two styles of broth, one being mala, and the other clear broth. doesn't it look so appetising?
oh they also have some starters, try the mutton satay.

as usual, you go to the sauce bar, and make your own concoction of a sauce dip. yummy.
and yes , there's something about hotpot that goes well with a few glasses of beer.

meat , meat and more meat!

Been here a couple of times, and i'll keep coming back for some communal eating+beers with friends.
