D'Original Bumbu @ Geylang Serai, Singapore.

Woke up with a huge craving for asam pedas, went to my favourite spot in Geylang Serai for my fix, and damn it, the whole place was packed with people. In the end, I opted this stall for the lesser queue, and I ordered a nasi rawon instead. And to my surprise, heh it was good!

A typical nasi padang stall.

With a variety of dishes on display.

My takeaway/tapau packet of nasi rawon. A standard packet comes with cuttlefish(spicy!), tempeh(some tofu/beans thingy), begedil(potato cutlet for carbos!, in case you didn't get enough from the rice), a dollop of sambal and beef. Sadly the original beef cut for this dish was sold out(grr the auntie in front of me got the last piece), and it was replaced with sambal pengantin, which I have no qualms about as beef spare parts is my forte:) Now this dish is called nasi rawon, it is served with a small bowl of a potent/concentrated beef broth which I'm not sure how long they have been cooking it and boy was it freaking uber delicious. Pic not shown as the pic didn't do justice. This whole concoction is seriously something, everything just mixed in nicely, and the sambal, killer! Last post for the year, Happy 2015 may it be a fabulous and a good year to you!:)

Spicy Thai - Spicy Cafe @ Aljunied, Singapore.

I found myself in this neighbourhood one day, to go for a particular stall, but it was closed, and I remembered reading about this Thai restaurant previously.

Normal condiments you'll get at any Thai restaurant. Potent chilli though, just the way I like it:)

As usual I'll order a tom yam soup and mango or papaya salad, but this round I opted the mango
instead.

Food is good, tom yam was spicy, seafood portions was generous. The mango salad was delicious, sourish and spicy. A very good lunch indeed.

Fatt Choy Mui Seafood Restaurant @ Cassia Crescent, Singapore.

Sze char, what's not to love about it. Good company with good food, I just love it. This was my first time trying this joint, and I think I'll be a frequent visitor.

They ordered a curry fish head, very lovely. Next time I shall try the asam fish head.

This tofu was my killer dish for the night, very well executed.

And yes! They have petai/smelly beans. Sambal petai with prawns, a must order dish!

If I'm not mistaken, this was the claypot frog. Some dishes I can't identify, as I didn't do the ordering, aha but it was a good home cooked feel kinda meal. Unpretentious, chillax, good atmosphere and good food.

Nasi Padang Lor 1 Geylang @ Lor 27 Geylang, Singapore.

Former Lor 1 nasi padang which is now situated at lorong 27. I was actually looking for this joint as it was infamous for its sotong/squid with roe. So based on what I could google, it was situated on the corner of Lor 27 and Sims Ave, but when I went there, it was a new apartment block. Boy I gave up, then on another night of walking around aimlessly, I found it! It's now situated at Eastern Restaurant at the corner of Geylang Road and Lorong 27.

The dishes are minimal but decent varieties.

Sambal goreng, sambal petai, and a big piece of the sotong with roe with sambal belacan on the side. The auntie did mentioned to me beforehand that the piece of sotong is 8 sgd. I've been craving it for so long, heck boy was it good! Portions are generous, a bit pricey but worth it. The flavours of the dishes all blend well. A truly good nasi padang.

Wild Honey @ Mandarin Gallery, Orchard, Singapore.

This is my second time here, and it seems they expanded and move to the corner. The old location houses a new pastrami joint also owned by them. I have yet to check it out, soon:)

Quite an extensive menu, if only I had more room to sample it all.

And what a better way to start a brunch with a bloody mary and boy do they do a mean one here. Good stuff. You have a few options to go with your bloody mary, I opted for jalapeno and celery. I would have gone for bacon, but I knew I'm getting some bacons for my mains.

English breakfast, and as the menu stated, the full works. Some scrambled eggs, bacon, sausages, potatoes, mushrooms, grilled tomatoes, some funky baked beans(I loved this!) and brioche. The whole plate was actually something I don't mind waking up to for breakfast any given day. A good place to come to for a good cure for a hangover. Suggest call for reservations in advance, as this place is packed.

Bubur Goh Sza Lang Restoran Taiwan S/B @ Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

So here I was having supper early in the morning after a long night out partying. Honestly I actually was looking forward to my hotel bed, but luckily I got kidnapped for supper. I reckon the pictures will suffice to show how good the food are.

Yes there was few of us that thought, there wasn't enough drinks from previous night.

The food was good, loved the dishes, porridge was plain simple, but the dishes they served here complement the porridge really well. The see ham/cockles was one of my favourite dish of the night plus the pomfret. A good supper place in the wee hours of morning.

D'Laksa @ KSL City, Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

So backtracking a bit, went to BKT for breakfast as per my previous post, and as I was walking in KSL City lower ground, there was this faint aroma, Asam Laksa! So I came back after a heavy meal at WW curry laksa, and tapaued one to satisfy my craving.

Looks, taste it's definitely there, but it was lacking a bit of oomph, a bit watery. I suspect as there was a bit of queue, the worker was rushing it, and they poured a new batch of broth to the boiler when it was my turn for takeaway. Damn it, bad luck, but I shall be back to test it out again. For now my craving is satisfied...

W. W. Laksa House @ Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

A friend of mine recommended we go here for lunch, and what a gem it was. One of those corner coffee shops that just sells a few items.

They sell a mean otah here too, so we ordered a few to line up our palates.

Curry laksa, tau pok, see ham, fish cakes just beautiful. Broth was creamy but not jelak, see ham was fresh, and the best part, the tau pok heavily drenched in the broth when you eat it. Good stuff.

My friend told me normally people will add the otah to the noodles. Kinda nice flavour otah with the curry laksa.

Restoran Soon Soon Heng Bah Kut Teh @ Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

If your around KSL mall, there's a few bkt shops. We took our chances and tried this joint instead.

As this was breakfast, I was still recovering from a heavy nights out. Luckily my friends did the ordering.

BKT was good, the broth was herbal, but not too thick, I sensed a bit of pepper as well. Just what I needed for a perk me up. Excellent place for a hearty breakfast.

It Roo Cafe @ Johor Bahru, Malaysia.

The signs boasts The Best Chicken Chop in town for JB. I've passed by a few times and this round I managed to check it out.

They have two versions for the chicken chop, grilled or fried, I opted for the grilled one as it was recommended by the server, and boy was he right!

Portions are generous, the wedges was done nicely, crispy and the inside was moist. Loved the coleslaw, I'm such a sucker for coleslaw. The grilled chicken coupled with the black pepper sauce was good. It remind's me of the old school Hainanese style chicken chop minus the open air kopi shop style ambience. Good stuff.

Warung Menega @ Senggigi, Lombok, Indonesia.

Dinner time and we headed out to Warung Menega, it was a bit far from our hotel, so we had to cabbed it. I didn't expect much as I thought it'll be another tourist seafood joint, but boy was I wrong. It was a Sunday night, the place looked empty with only I reckon three tables full, and all being locals.

Order some grilled fish, sotong/squid. Absolutely fresh, and super delicious.

The grilled prawns was my star of the night, you have to order this. My only gripe was there was no cockles/kerang/clams. Arghhhh what bad luck, makes me wanna go back to Lombok just to taste how they do their clams.

Ok it's automatic when you order the seafood, it'll come with this 4 condiments, thick sweet soya sauce, a kind of chilli/satay sauce, garlic sauce, and my favourite as I took another pic below, some cut shallots with chilli and oil, good stuff. Also, it comes with steam rice and kangkung belacan.

This is one of my favourite restaurants from the trip, ambience is laid back, food is decently priced, fresh and taste good, I'll definitely be back.

Yessy Cafe @ Senggigi, Lombok, Indonesia.

Came here for late lunch, place was empty with only another table being occupied. I guess Lombok is pretty laid back for a Sunday or maybe people tend to pass by here and straight to Gilis.

Ordered an ayam taliwang again. The gravy coupled with the chicken is a match made in heaven. With a hot steaming white rice, the meal is complete.

But us being us, we also ordered a gado-gado to share, sort of a local salad. If there's something they do best here, it's the sauces. The thick peanut sauce, sort of like a satay sauce, is super addictive, but hey it's a salad, so its healthy!
